The FA26 Rock Cuttings project involves the stabilisation of several rail cuttings throughout the North West of England.
The Doveholes project involved meshing and doweling a selective area of the cutting face to eliminate rock fall risk to the rail infrastructure. Mesh securing top anchors were achieved using Weldgrip R32N self drilling anchors.

The anchors were installed using a TEI mast and grout flush system to achieve the 6-8 meter drilling depth.

A variety of Drill Bits were tested & the R32/51mm/ESS-F button bits proved the most productive in the Carboniferous Limestone. Due to embankment instability heavy machines were not permitted on the embankment crest. Drilling operations were achieved using excavator machines operated from the carriageway.

Comments of the Vertical Access Contracts Manager:

“The use of the Self Drilling Anchor system allowed us to produce timely work in known problematic ground conditions and prevent program delays on this critical stage of the project.”

“The production of the top anchorages are critical to our operation on this type of project as they are used for both Industrial Roped Access Anchors by operatives and always form the primary stage to our meshing works.”
